Manchester City have joined the race for highly-rated Benfica full-back Victor Lindelof and will rival Manchester United for the defender’s signature, O Jogo reports.
What’s the word?
The eyes of Europe’s biggest sides seem to be set firmly on Benfica ahead of the summer transfer window, with it likely that the Portuguese side will see offers come in for their prized talents- which include Swedish full-back Victor Lindelof.
The 22-year-old has impressed in Portugal with Benfica and came close to joining Manchester United in January. Whilst a move in the mid-season window broke down, the Red Devils still hold first refusal on a deal.
That will make it difficult for Manchester City to land Lindelof’s services, as Manchester United will have the option to match any bid Benfica accept for the young defender- and they’d be extremely unlikely to let him move to a rival club.
Who else is keen?
Manchester City and Manchester United will both face a wealth of competition in the race for Lindelof’s services, as it’s understood a host of European giants are also eyeing the 22-year-old; including Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus.
On top of that, there’s also interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Roma, though the latter club would likely be seen as outsiders for a deal, but it means the asking price from Benfica will be driven up into astronomical numbers.
