It was Tammy Abraham who broke the deadlock at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, when Chelsea were facing Aston Villa.
The striker, who spent last season on loan at Villa Park, found space in the box to head home Reece James’ cross past Tom Heaton, making the score 1-0 to the home side.
The frustration Villa fans felt as a result of this goal was not solely down to the fact that it saw them go behind in the match.
This was also linked to how much many of them had grown to adore the striker last season, after he went on to score 26 goals.
It says a lot about the impact he made at the club that he was recognised in The Athletic’s Villa Team of the Decade.
However, he caused their supporters misery with his goal, even adding to that by assisting Mason Mount’s strike that made the final scoreline 2-1.
However, it was not just who scored the goal that caused frustration, because there was also annoyance at the way that it was conceded.
Ezri Konsa was the closest man to Abraham and allowed the striker to peel off his shoulder.
The defender’s desperation being encapsulated by the fact he had his hand in the air to appeal for an offside call before the ball had even gone past him.
Whose Line Is It Anyway: Sean Dyche, Nigel Pearson or Ant Middleton?
Having seen Abraham thrive in this type of scenario so often last campaign, Villa fans couldn’t believe they had allowed themselves to be on the receiving end so easily.
In other news, Aston Villa have been linked with loan moves to bring in another striker.
